2023 Battle of Monmouth Reenactment|Saturdays Battle

Hello! I just wanted to post another reenactment video similar to my Princeton reenactment video, although this time, a MUCH larger reenactment. This reenactment took place during fathers Day weekend and was held at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, the actual site of the battle. The reenactment commemorated the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth which took place on June 28th, 1778, and was the last major battle of the Northern Theatre of the war. The Continental forces, after enduring a hard winter at Valley Forge, emerged that summer as more of a professional fighting force and were eager to take on the British in any shape or form. The British, who were now leaving Philadelphia to head for New York after word got around that the French had allied Continental forces, had the Continentals trailing their backs while heading to New York, and in farm fields around Monmouth Courthouse, the two armies clashed in almost 100-degree heat which resulted in there being many more heat-related casualties than from combat. After a botched attack on the British rearguard by Major General Charles Lee sent the Coninteals retreating from the pursuing British, Washington, furious at the missed opportunity reprimanded Lee and relinquished him of his position. The Continentals soon repositioned themselves in the surrounding hills of the farm fields and set up formidable artillery positions along Perrine and Combs Hill and engaged the attacking British forces. Feared of being trapped and enclosed in a valley, the British hastily retreated and soon control of the field rested in the Continental's hands. Although the result of this battle was inconclusive and not decisive in favor of the Continentals as the British were still able to retreat and make it to New York. However, this battle showed that the Americans could adequately fight the British army on their terms and showed the renewed Continental Army after Valley Forge.

Apologies for the frequent misfires, as evident in the beginning, there was a popup thunderstorm right before the reenactment started which isnt the best for a flintlock musket that relies on sparks. But I hope you can appreciate the intensity of the battle in first person and expirence how 18th century armies manuevered. I hope you enjoy the video and if you want to check out Sundays battle, I posted that on my regiments youtube page and I will post the link in the description.
Thanks!
