A mother and her calf of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) gliding gracefully through the calm waters of Golfo Dulce 💙🌊

It was a truly special interaction — the mother showed unusual trust, allowing her calf to approach the boat.

Normally, mothers position themselves between the calf and the boat for protection, but this little one seemed curious and playful, moving close as if trying to communicate with the people onboard. ✨

This tropical fjord in southern Costa Rica is home to over 100 resident bottlenose dolphins, present here all year round.

Females have a gestation period of about 12 months, and the calves stay with their mothers for 3 to 6 years, learning to feed, communicate, and navigate the ocean. 🐬💙
