Former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui says it's a shame that the main categories of the Grammys only include one Hispanic nominee.
Jauregui, who is Cuban-American, is set to release her debut solo album in 2020, with several songs including Spanish lyrics.
"I believe that we're all a global society at this point with our connectivity, and I think that as far as awards shows go, there's a long way to go as far as representation," she said. "I hope to see growth in those departments. But, you know, we can only do so much. Hopefully they'll be new award shows created to honor people."
Jauregui said including Spanish on her album was important to her.
"I'm from Miami, born and raised ... Both sets of grandparents were born in Cuba and my mother was born in Cub," she said. "So I grew up listening to all kinds of music, like a range of Spanish music and Latin music, salsa, all that kind of stuff, as well as American music. So my music has tidbits of fusion in it."
Jauregui spoke on the pink carpet at Billboard's Women in Music awards recently. Her album is expected to debut in early 2020.
