The Debate Between Imam Azam (Rahmatullahi Alayh) and an Atheist Scholar

Once, Imam Abu Hanifa (Rahmatullahi Alayh) had a debate with an atheist scholar who denied the existence of Allah. The subject of the debate was whether or not there is a Creator of this world. People, both friends and foes, gathered to witness this important debate with such a respected Imam. The atheist scholar also arrived on time, but Imam Azam arrived much later than the scheduled time. The atheist asked, “Why are you so late?”

Imam Azam replied, “On my way here, I came across a strange event that astonished me and caused me to stop. By the riverbank, I saw a tree that cut itself down, turned into planks, and arranged itself into a boat. The boat then launched into the river and began carrying passengers from one side to the other, even collecting fare from each of them on its own. Watching this strange sight delayed me.”

The atheist laughed loudly and said, “For a wise and respected Imam like you, telling such a terrible lie is shocking! How can anything happen on its own? Without a craftsman, something like this could never happen.”

Imam Azam replied, “That’s nothing at all. According to your belief, far greater things happen on their own. This earth, the sky, the moon, the sun, the stars, gardens with flowers of every color, sweet fruits, mountains, animals, humans—all of it came into existence without a Creator. If it’s impossible for a boat to be created on its own, then how can this entire world create itself without a Creator? Isn’t that an even greater falsehood?”

Hearing this, the atheist scholar was astonished and immediately abandoned his false beliefs, accepting Islam.

Moral:
This story teaches that there is indeed a Creator of this world, and His name is Allah. Denying Allah’s existence is against logic and reason.
