"You don't have to be alone to feel alone. Let's tackle it together."

This is the powerful message from England and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who has a starring role in a suicide prevention video for Campaign against Living Miserably (CALM).

CALM ambassador Rice, who played in England's 6-2 World Cup victory over Iran on Monday, is seen alone on the pitch in the video, trying to tackle an invisible opponent.

As the crowd watches on, a helping hand eventually pulls Rice from the ground in a metaphor for mental health struggles and the importance of seeking help for feelings of loneliness or isolation.

CALM says its helplines answer more calls about loneliness than anything else, with demand up 62 per cent on pre-pandemic levels.

"Everyone suffers at different times in their life and there's so many people out there who feel like there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel – but all it takes is a conversation," said Rice earlier this month as he campaigns to break the stigma around mental health problems.
