Pflueger President XT and President for Ladies model put to the test

Functional on the water review of the Pflueger President XT and Pflueger President for Ladies reels paired with Bass Pro Shops Graphite Series Rods. I bought these with my own money and this is an honest unsponsored opinion. For a mid grade reel, are they worth the money?

My Birthday is April 9th, Noah's is April 3rd, and Amanda’s is Feb. 15th. For my birthday I used the gift cards I got to buy new rods and reels for the family. Kind of like a family birthday celebration. It really does make a huge difference when you have nice gear. My family likes to fish, but they are not REALLY into it like me. One of the biggest mistakes that I made was not getting them proper gear to start out with. Amanda has a big catfish setup and Noah has a super cheap 40 combo. Both setups had the cheapest line I could find. Why spend the money on nice stuff if they don’t fish often, right….. I was so wrong. I would take them fishing and they were always fussing with the gear. It was not a very pleasurable experience and they stopped looking forward to getting out and going fishing.

I have to say, for the money, the Pflueger President series is very nice. 9+1 bearings and a smooth drag (6 pounds). The XT has a little nicer drag (8 pounds) and fancy handle but essentially feels the same while fishing. Amanda and I actually both preferred the normal president over the XT. The Micro-lite Graphite rod from Bass Pro shops was paired with the XT and was a little too light for worming. I liked the 6’6” Bass Pro Shops Graphite Series rod we had on Amanda's reel. For 34.99 it was a solid choice and I like the guides better. All in all if you go with the Pflueger President reel for 59.99 and the Graphite Rod for 34.99 you can have a really nice setup for less than $100. I would definitely recommend the Sufix 832 Braid in 15 or 20 lb. I have used many braided lines and this one is my favorite for only a couple of dollars more.

Oh yeah, and Amanda's favorite bait used to be the 3” gulp minnow, now it is the Gary Yamamoto 5” Senko. She killed it out there today!
