Joy McKean 2019 Acceptance Speech For AWMA Lifetime Achievement Award

Presented to a female artist or musician who has made an outstanding artistic contribution to the field of recording and/or live performance during her lifetime the AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN MUSIC AWARDS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD was this year presented to JOY McKEAN OAM.

JOY, the "grand lady of Australian country music" began performing at a young age with her sister, HEATHER McKEAN, and went on to become one of Australia’s leading songwriters and bush balladeers, writing many of SLIM DUSTY's greatest hits.

JOY McKEAN is also one of the founders of the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Country Music Association of Australia.

This video shows a large part of Joy's speech at the event which took place at the Brisbane Powerhouse in Queensland on Wednesday Oct 9, 2019. She was accompanied on stage by her daughter ANNE KIRKPATRICK.

Joy spoke about the plans for her upcoming 90th birthday in January 2020 which will feature a special concert with other country music artists singing her songs. She also said that one of her greatest achievements in life was her daughter Anne.
