The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 or the NDPS is the law that governs the possession and use of drugs in India.
Depending on the quantity you have, the punishment could range from imprisonment to a hefty fine or both.If you're caught with a small amount of weed, you could face up to 6 months of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Rs. 10,000, or both. But, if you're caught with more than a small amount but less than the commercial quantity, then be prepared to face up to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Rs. 1 lakh, or both.
