• Change the name of your first server to rwdc, then your first name. For example, mine will be rwdcpatrick (Note: This will require a reboot!) (Note2: RWDC stands for read/write domain controller, and is a name commonly used on domain controllers)
• Set the time zone as Eastern Time.

• Change the name of your second server to server2, then your first name. For example, mine will be server2patrick (Note: This will require a reboot!)
• Set the time zone as Eastern Time.

Add the Active Directory Domain Services role to your first server. When the process of adding the role completes, start the process of promoting your server to a domain controller. Follow the instructions in the video in the module.
After your server reboots, log in as the domain administrator account.
What is UPN logon name for the administrator? (It’s the style that looks like an email address)
What is the SAMAccountName style logon name for the administrator? (It’s the style with a backslash)

Next, we will join the second server to the domain. Set the Primary DNS Server on the second server to the private IP address of the first server.
Join the second server to the domain through Server Manager. The server will need to reboot to complete the process of joining the domain.
After the second server reboots, log in using your domain administrator account, NOT your local administrator account.
On the first server, open Active Directory Users & Computers. Paste a screenshot that shows the second server as a member of the domain:


From the first server, open Server Manager. Add the second server to the Server Manager console, so both servers can be managed from the first server.
