Its surface was dotted with massive cathedrals, which were not only centers of worship but also fortifications in their own right. These cathedrals were often fortified against the constant threat of invasion.

During the 13th Black Crusade, led by the Chaos Warmaster Abaddon the Despoiler, Cadia came under a devastating and relentless assault. The cathedrals of Cadia, once symbols of hope and faith, were turned into battlegrounds. The planet itself was eventually torn apart as the forces of Chaos finally breached its defenses, causing widespread destruction and the ruination of its cathedrals.
