Welcome to Day 5 of my Ladakh Travel Series!
Today, we attempted the toughest and most dangerous ride of our entire trip — the legendary Umling La Pass, the highest motorable pass in the world (11 November)

We started riding early in –20°C temperature with extremely strong winds. The off-roading sections were intense, and we had to cross two massive black ice patches, but somehow we made it safely to the top of Umling La.

The weather at the peak was unbelievably brutal — freezing winds, extreme cold, and oxygen so low that we couldn’t stay more than 10 minutes.
While riding back down, we were shivering so badly that we couldn’t control our motorcycle. We finally decided to sit as pillion riders with others in the group for safety.

But the return wasn’t easy either — our bike crashed into the mountain, giving us one of the biggest scares of the entire trip. It truly felt like a near-death experience, but thankfully we all returned safely to Hanle by evening.
