Here is some history lesson behind the housewarming.

Firstly, this procedure is a way of introducing your new house to your ancestors, you are basically inviting them and letting them know where you are going to stay with your new family. Secondly, the married couple then sleeps at the husband’s old home (his mother’s and father’s house) for the last time. Then the following morning they take selepe, mogoma and mafata to go to their house. This signifies that they are starting afresh and they going to start their new life together. Lastly, a goat is slaughtered to celebrate two families coming together.
