Once upon a time in a cozy forest village called Pinewood, there lived a little hedgehog named Milo. Milo loved to read books, paint colorful pictures, and pick wildflowers for his mom. But he was very quiet and shy, which made him different from some of the other animals at Pinewood School.

Every day at school, a group of squirrels—led by a loud one named Spike—teased Milo.

“Why do you always carry books instead of a football?” Spike would snicker.
“Do you sleep in flower beds?” another would laugh.

Milo felt hurt, but he didn’t tell anyone. He thought maybe if he just ignored them, the teasing would stop.

But it didn’t.

One day, the teacher, Miss Owl, announced that the class would put on a big talent show. Everyone was excited. Milo wanted to join, but the thought of performing in front of others—and Spike—made his tummy feel twisty.

That afternoon, Milo sat alone by the pond, doodling in his sketchbook. Just then, Benny the beaver sat beside him.

“Hey Milo,” said Benny kindly, “those drawings are amazing! You should show them in the talent show.”

Milo shook his head. “What if everyone laughs at me?”

Benny smiled. “They won’t. But even if someone does, being brave means doing something even when you're scared. And you're not alone—I’ll cheer for you.”

With Benny’s encouragement, Milo decided to try.

On the night of the talent show, the forest was full of excited chattering. Milo nervously stepped onstage, holding his sketchbook. He showed his paintings of Pinewood—of the twinkling fireflies, the waterfall, and all the forest animals, including a smiling squirrel.

The crowd gasped. Then they clapped. Then they cheered.

Even Spike looked surprised. He mumbled, “That was… actually kinda cool.”

After the show, many animals came to Milo to say how much they loved his art. Spike didn’t tease him the next day—or the day after that. In fact, he even asked if Milo could teach him to draw.

From then on, Milo walked a little taller. He learned that being different wasn’t something to hide—it was something to celebrate. And he knew that real courage isn’t about being the loudest or the fastest. Sometimes, it’s just about showing the world who you really are.
