About the piece:
The Sonata for Violin and Piano was written during the beginning of the pandemic,
when I had the good fortune of having a world-class violinist as a housemate,
cooped up with me and my piano (and our spouses). What better to compose than
a piece for violin and piano? The Sonata was premiered by Christina Bouey (my
housemate) and Yoon Lee, piano, in a livestream performance sponsored by Suite
Française in December, 2020. The piece is in four movements – an Introduction and
Allegro; a Pastorale; a Scherzo; and a Theme and Variations – followed by a short
Epilogue. The chorale-like theme of the Fourth Movement is almost identical to the
Introduction of the Introduction and Allegro, and forms the backbone of the entire
piece.
