Roger Scruton on Spineless Ministers & Smear-Merchant Hacks: From New Statesman to (Non)Statesmen

In this clip from his longer interview on "So What You're Saying Is", (FOR FULL INTERVIEW :    • Sir Roger Scruton: Professing Right I...  ), Prof. Sir Roger Scruton discusses his scandalous treatment in 2019 -- first at the hands of The New Statesman magazine and then at the hands of the Conservative Government.

In the case of The New Statesman, one of its journalists -- George Eaton -- wrote a now infamous article laden with misquotes and quotes taken out of context, all of which served to cast Sir Roger as a racist and anti-Semite.

In the case of the Conservative Government, without consulting Sir Roger about the veracity of the articles' claims, Housing Minister James Brokenshire announced (without the courtesy of informing Sir Roger) that he had been fired from his position on the "Building Better, Building Beautiful" commission -- abandoning the Conservative philosopher to the mercy of the social media mob. In fact Sir Roger never received any communication from the Government regarding this matter.

Scruton regards this as a classic example of the sad state of current affairs whereby modern day government Tories are petrified of being "denounced" by their traditional foes on the Left.

Speaking about his former role on the commission to make public building in Britain more beautiful for the populace at large, Scruton discusses the attitude of the architectural establishment towards him -- and why his departure will have pleased many of them.

"So What You're Saying Is" host Peter Whittle also asks Sir Roger whether or not he would have accepted reappointment to the commission once his position had been vindicated [following release of Eaton's original interview tapes.]
