Thinking about taking the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway? Here’s what to expect on the 4-hour round-trip ride from Blue Ridge, Georgia, to McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee.

We rode in Open Car 114 and spent a beautiful fall day along the Toccoa River surrounded by mountain views. The full trip lasts 4 hours, including a 2-hour layover in McCaysville and Copperhill. It’s a fun stop to see, but honestly, it felt more like a tourist trap than a must-see. If you’d rather explore Blue Ridge itself, the 2-hour train option might be a better fit.

Our conductor was knowledgeable and shared great history about the railway and the area. Parking is available for 3 hours or for the full day - we paid $20 for daily parking since our trip was 4 hours long.

Even with a few downsides, the train ride itself was peaceful and full of beautiful scenery. It’s a great experience if you love trains, small towns, and mountain views.
