Sri Lanka Crisis: First Image Of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa In Singapore, Resigns Via Email

Sri Lanka News LIVE Updates: In a statement, the Speaker’s Office said that a resignation letter from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been sent to the Speaker through the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore. An official announcement will be made tomorrow (15) once the letter is authenticated and legal formalities are completed, it added.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe the acting President after he fled to Male, Maldives, with his wife and two staffers on Wednesday, infuriating protesters further. Protesters have so far taken over the Presidential palace, PM's office, PM's house, and the state broadcaster. Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa called the government's actions thus far "total anarchy".
