A woman driving on the interstate was frozen in her seat when floodwater currents picked up her vehicle and carried it toward deeper water.

Her life seemed in peril until a good Samaritan jumped into the stream and rescued her, a witness said.

In the face of historic flooding Tuesday evening, Troy Plemons, an EPB employee driving on the interstate between jobs, saved a woman from drowning, according to a witness who filmed the whole event.


“We could see the fear on her face. She couldn’t roll down her window, couldn’t open her door, and we could see her trying,” Plemons said in an interview. “And then once her car kind of stopped, it just started sinking, and the water was rising as it was sinking.”

In that moment, Plemons said they decided to act. The employees from the electric company handed him a piece of metal to break the window, and without any concern for his own safety, Plemons said he leapt into the murky water.
