(28 Oct 1994) American AIDS activists have been pressuring the United States government to include more women in AIDS tests and to control the costs of drugs and treatments.

A grass roots organization made their concerns heard at a meeting of the National Task Force on AIDS Drug Development.

Protesters organized by ACT UP stormed a government meeting of AIDS drug officials.

ACT UP is demanding that more women be included in AIDS drug testing.

The group also wants to see some kind of regulation and price controls on current drugs used in treating immuno-deficiency and viruses.

The National Task Force on AIDS Drug Development was meeting to discuss these issues, as well as other treatments.

But both sides admitted very little progress had been made.

There are clearly some unresolved issues and those by exploring those publicly as we do in the task force we'll move those forward as well. We have not solved the problem completely. There needs to be much more aggressive outreach on the part of investigators and the sponsors like the pharmaceutical agencies and the NIH to include women in all types of clinical trials".
