A little fun fact: To compensate for the large number of songs on the disc for this mix, many songs use more generic background movies compared to what they had in MAX2 and MAX. The audio of the songs are compressed a bit more, as well the backgrounds themselves. If you've ever wondered why the gameplay looks or sounds a tad bit worse, there's why.

Seeing the earlier games and their intros honestly made me appreciate 'Dance Dance Revolution' a lot more. Just one more point in how this entire mix is a love letter to the series as a whole.

Here's the other huge reason people love EXTREME so much: its song list. This one's is HUGE, beating 4thMIX PLUS's 150 songs with over 240. While you can easily point at literally any of the games past this one for having a larger list, the point is quality over quantity. This mix revives a ton of songs from damn near every major facet of DDR at the time, even featuring Dancemania licenses. MAX2 finally gets its Challenge-Only songs to have proper banners and, you know, show up in the list. As you can also see, a couple of older songs even got brand new Challenge charts, with some for the Dancemania licenses even making it to X3!

A really important part to the huge song list is also that, since this is the last time a lot of older songs will appear in the series, this game is the most optimized way to OFFICIALLY play them.

Again, there's a reason why this is the most commonly found DDR machine. That people normally use this mix for competitions, that its 20th anniversary was celebrated by having a mod released for it that added Marvelous to normal gameplay.
