Golden Axe (ゴールデンアックス) is Sega's most popular beat-'em-up released initially in 1989 for the Sega System 16 arcade hardware. Makoto Uchida was the development team's lead project manager. He also led the team behind Altered Beast.

This game said to be heavily inspired by the Conan the Barbarian film and we can clearly see why in the visuals. It took about a e year to make this game.
Golden Axe was ported to the Sega Mega Drive in Japan in 1989 as well. The rest of the world got the release a year later in 1990. The Sega Genesis also got a "Classic" release in the USA in 1992
