A fierce dust storm engulfed a town in Western Australia today (21/10) reducing visibility to just a few metres.

Motorist Haylee Guiver captured the alarming scene from a car park overlooking the town of Newman this afternoon as an orange cloud of dust covered homes and trees.

Locals could only see a few metres in front of them as they looked over towards the town.

Haylee said: ''The dust storm went on for more than 10 minutes and the whole town disappeared.''

Dust storms have blighted parts of the country since September. Experts warned that the continuing drought is to blame - and predicted more dust storms in the coming months.

Large parts of country has been ravaged by drought this year, which many believe has lead to the apocalyptic scenes, where winds pick up the dry ground and blow it in the air.

Last month, a health warning was issued in South Australia as the state was struck by dust storms causing chaos on roads.
