Performance reviews and conversations about your work accomplishments typically focus on what you accomplished. But what about the disasters that were avoided because of your experience and talent? The things that didn't happen, the challenges you were able to overcome are just as important as what you were able to accomplish.

It's more proof your work doesn't speak for itself and we see it all the time in sports.

It's not uncommon for a "lockdown corner" in the NFL to have fewer stats than his teammates after a game. In fact, if you just looked at the box score, it would appear that cornerback didn't do much. The truth is, quarterbacks don't want to throw toward a lockdown corner so they get fewer opportunities while helping their team in a unique way.

When you talk about success don't forget about the things that don't show up in the numbers, because that's just as important as what does.
