Students’ access to technology expands their opportunities, according to Paul Kim, Ph.D., chief technology officer and associate dean of the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University.

“The current generation of students have access to ubiquitous technology – meaning they are able to connect, mingle, share, play, learn, and spend time together with friends around them as well as friends on the other side of the world. That's the kind of environment we are in. It creates a very unique opportunity for student learning and development,” explains Kim.

He explains, “Self-regulation is a key factor when we are considering the ‘always on’ situation the current generation of students are living in and learning in.”

WorkingNation sat down with Kim at SXSW EDU in Austin.

He says he would like to see students afforded education safety nets to help them navigate their pathways. He adds artificial intelligence can be leveraged to provide coaching services. “I'm not saying [AI coaches] will replace anything, but this will be a companion. This will be a great resource for human coaches to be able to use in coaching and providing an education safety net for all children who deserve this.”
