‘엄마의 사랑’은 신기합니다.
그렇게 주고도 그대로 있는가 하면
오히려 더 불어나는 것만 같습니다.
변하지 않고 끝나지도 않습니다.
엄마는 이 사랑이 어디서 났을까요?

엄마도 엄마가 보고 싶을 때가 있을 겁니다.
엄마도 엄마에게서 사랑을 받았을 테니까요.
사랑은 그렇게 물려받는 것인가 봅니다.

엄마는 엄마에게, 엄마의 엄마는 엄마에게….
거슬러 올라가면
‘엄마의 사랑’이 시작된 곳을 알 수 있을까요.

이 땅을 더듬어 하늘을 바라봅니다.
그리고 가만히 생각합니다.

자연보다 먼저 있었을 영원불변의 사랑
만고의 생명을 품은 위대한 모성(母性).
그 시작점에
“우리 어머니” 당신이 있었다는 것을.

Mother’s love is amazing.
Though she gives much, it seems to be the same.
Rather, it becomes more.
It doesn’t change or end.
From where did she get this love?

Sometimes, she must miss her mother,
because she has received love from her mother, too.
I think that’s the way we inherit love.

My mother received love from her mother,
and her mother received it from her mother . . .

El amor de una madre es sorprendente.
Aunque da mucho amor, este parece no acabarse.
En cambio, aumenta.
No cambia ni se acaba.
¿De dónde saca tanto amor?

A veces, una madre extraña a su madre,
porque ella también recibió amor de ella.
Pienso que es así como heredamos el amor.

Mi madre recibió el amor de su madre,
y su madre lo recibió de su madre…
Cuando crecemos,
¿podemos conocer el origen del amor maternal?
