In this video, Berklee Online professor John Storyk explains the difference between isolation acoustics and internal room acoustics. He details that isolation acoustics deal with how quiet your room is, and internal room acoustics deal with how sound performs in the room. He talks about factors of both to consider before you build a studio, and how they can pertain to production.

About John Storyk:
John Storyk is best known for designing Electric Lady Studios with Jimi Hendrix, shortly after completing his architectural studies from Princeton. As an independent designer, engineer, and principal designer of WSDG, he has been responsible for more than 3,500 world-class audio/video production facilities, including studios, radio stations, video suites, entertainment clubs, and theaters. His work includes private studios for Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Ace Frehley, Oven Studios (Alicia Keys), Roc the Mic (JAY-Z), and others. He is an adjunct professor of Acoustics and Studio Design at Berklee College of Music, Boston and he is the co-author of Berklee Online’s Architectural, Acoustic, and Audio System Design for the Modern Music Production Studio course, part of the Master of Music in Music Production program.
