Fifth generation hybrid technology

Creating a superior driving experience was a development priority. The new Camry Hybrid 230 is the latest model to benefit from the advances in performance, driveability and efficiency delivered by Toyota’s fifth generation hybrid technology.

This evolutionary upgrade includes a new lithium-ion battery with higher output and responsiveness. Principal components, including the transaxle, electric motor-generators and inverter, have been redesigned to reduce internal losses and to save weight (the system’s mass is lighter by 7.7 kg) and space. Combined with the established 2.5-litre, four-cylinder hybrid engine, these changes increase the full system’s maximum power to 230 DIN hp / 169 kW (+6%), while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to 4.8 l/100 km and 109 g/km respectively (WLTP combined cycle).

Acceleration is more powerful and linear with near-instant response and is more easily controlled, particularly from start-off. The 0-100 km/h time has been reduced from 8.3 to 7.2 seconds. The battery’s enhanced contribution also means the engine can run at lower revs, supporting fuel and emissions efficiency and quieter operation.

The driving rewards are further enhanced with a retuning of the suspension – front MacPherson struts and rear double wishbones – for reassuring response and more agile handling, particularly on twisting country roads.
