Descartes: Life is a dream

Whilst Descartes was on the search for truth he realized that his senses had been deceiving him. He was placed in situations which he believed were real but were in fact mass illusions; these were his dreams.
Should you trust that which deceives you even once?
If you have been in a situation that you thought was real but was in fact a dream, then could it be possible you are always in a dream. How could you ever know?
