Nicholas Whiteside, a 22-year-old homeowner in Memphis, Tenn., shows how buying a home is possible with the help of educational resources, housing counselors and mortgage programs.

Nicholas’s homeownership journey started when he watched his mother buy her first house in their hometown of Memphis, Tenn., in 2008. That process sparked for Nicholas his goal to buy a home of his own. Not only did he see that it was possible to own a home, but as he got older, he also realized how important homeownership was to providing stability and building wealth.

While in college, he was introduced to money management and homebuying tools, as well as resources from housing counselors, mortgage lenders, nonprofit financial leaders and Freddie Mac. Nicholas used the free tools at his disposal to purchase his first home in South Memphis. Now a 22-year-old homeowner, he is showing his community how homeownership is possible.
