Скачать или смотреть One Newark Firefighter Injured at South 20th Street 2-Alarm Fire

Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara reports that one Newark Firefighter was injured while working to extinguish a 2-alarm fire at 626 S. 20th Street today.

“I’m extremely thankful that the injured firefighter is being treated and that his condition is currently reported as stable,” Director O’Hara said. “I commend him and all responding members of the Newark Fire Division for their bravery in working tirelessly to contain and extinguish this fire.”

At approximately 4:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a call of a fire on the first floor of the 3-story residence and located heavy fire. A second alarm was sounded at 4:38 p.m. with some 70 firefighters responding to the scene.

The injured firefighter suffered second degree burns to his neck. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment. No other injuries have been reported.

Two multi-family homes were affected by the fire and a total of 19 adults and 4 children have been relocated as a result of this incident.

The fire was considered under control at 5:40 p.m.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
