🌳 Pawpaws have been ripening and we are loving them fresh! It’s easy to overdo it and we find it’s best to save some for later…

Known as “America’s forgotten fruit,” the pawpaw is a hidden gem of our landscape. This creamy, custard-like flesh could be described as a blend of banana and mango-like flavor... it’s best eaten fresh, but because more fruits ripen than I can eat at one time, here you can see me mashing up some of the flesh to de-seed and freeze it for using in PawPaw ice cream or smoothies later on.

Known as “America’s forgotten fruit,” Paw paw trees are a favorite in permaculture circles... but you’ll NEVER see pawpaws at the store! They don’t ship and store well, which is a key feature that a lot of our grocery store produce is selected around. ⁠

Pawpaw is native and thrives in a temperate climate like ours—particularly in moist soil.
