Capybara Sounds: The Cry Of A Frightened Mother Capybara and Her Baby

Momiji lived in a separate enclosure for about 12 weeks before and after giving birth to Choco and Donut. In this video the babies are just over 4 weeks old. Momiji found it very stressful being separated from the herd and frequently called to the herd. However, what really frightened her was the day Nagasaki Bio Park arranged for a film crew to come into her small enclosure and to film her babies. She was terrified by the intrusion and her need to protect her babies. Even worse, as she tried to run away from the film crew she became caught up in the ropes which had been laid across the top of the enclosure to deter birds from attacking her babies. Momiji suffered several wounds as she tried to protect her babies. Donguri tried to protect Momiji but she was rudely pushed into the pond. After the film crew leaves Donguri returns to guide the entrance gate to Momiji's enclosure. The PR manager saw how very upset I was and scoffed, as if it didn't matter if animals were mistreated. As far as he was concerned the capybaras with their use as promotional material, they had no Rights.
