Disk at 100% in Windows 11 is one of the most common “my PC is dying” problems—and the worst part is it can happen even when you’re not doing anything. The result: slow boot, apps not opening, stutters, and constant freezing.

In this video, I show you a fast, safe checklist that usually fixes it in minutes:

1) Identify the real culprit
Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and sort by Disk usage. If one program is constantly hammering the drive (browser, updater, game launcher, antivirus scan, etc.), close it and reboot once.

2) Stop SysMain (the usual 100% Disk trigger on HDDs)
SysMain (formerly Superfetch) can cause nonstop disk activity—especially on older hard drives. Stopping it and disabling auto-start is a common “instant relief” fix.

3) Stop Windows Search indexing (another common trigger)
Windows Search indexing is useful, but on slower drives it can keep Disk Active Time pinned at 100%. Setting it to Manual reduces background disk pressure.

Important notes:
• This is safe because you’re not deleting files or changing the registry.
• If you use an HDD, these steps often improve responsiveness immediately.
