After months of building, testing, and training wild rooks in the park across from my home… everything suddenly stopped.

This is the story of how I reached Phase 3 with the rooks — they learned to drop plastic bottle caps into the Crowbuddy and receive food in return. Those first magical moments felt like a breakthrough.

But nature had other plans. During breeding season, the rooks abandoned the device for worms and larvae. Then territorial black crows arrived and chased them away. I had to start all over again.

Even though the project didn’t go as planned, I’m grateful — to the municipality of Coevorden, and to the incredible intelligence of these birds. I know it’s possible to go further.
