In the fourth event of the series, Jade S. Sasser and Philipp Lehmann will discuss the crucial moments that shaped environmental history.

About the speakers:

Jade S. Sasser is Associate Professor in the Department of Gender & Sexuality Studies at UC Riverside. She received her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley. Her work explores how environmental problems such as climate change and toxic exposures intersect with women’s bodies, health, rights, and reproduction. Her first book, On Infertile Ground: Population Control and Women’s Rights in the Era of Climate Change, was published in 2018 by NYU Press. Currently she is engaged in several research projects at the intersections of climate justice activism, energy access, and environmental emotions.

Philipp Lehmann is an Assistant Professor in the History Department at UC Riverside. Before coming to Southern California, he worked as a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, Germany. He has published on the history of colonial science and early climate change theories and is currently putting the finishing touches on a manuscript examining the long history of climate engineering in North Africa and Europe from the late nineteenth to the middle of the twentieth century.
