酒胡子, Wine Puppet, Jiu Huzi(Jiu Huzi). This is Chinese Tang Dynasty court music that was brought to China by Sogdian musicians. From the 5th century to the 10th century, Chinese Emperors loved the cultures of foreign countries. The biggest influence was from Sogdian musicians. Sogdiana, where they came from, was located North-East of Iran.
Several manuscripts of this piece survived in Japan. It was transcribed from Japanese manuscripts by Laurence Picken.
