About Epoxy Art

Epoxy art is a form of art that uses epoxy resin, a synthetic resin that was first patented in the 1930s. Epoxy resin is a two-part system that consists of a resin and a hardener.
Discovery
Dr. Pierre Castan and Dr. Sylvan Greenlee discovered epoxy resin in the 1930s.
Castan, a Swiss chemist, was one of the first pioneers of epoxy resin.
Greenlee, a chemist for Devoe & Raynolds Company, patented a new type of epoxy resin in 1946.
Early use
Epoxy resin was originally used for dental fixtures.
Once it was discovered that epoxy resin could be used to preserve objects and adhere items together, it became popular in the art world.
Artists began mixing epoxy resin with pigment and using it as a painting medium.
Resin art today
Resin art is versatile and can be used to create a variety of pieces, including sculptures, jewelry, and home decor.
Resin art is delicate but durable, and visually fragile but tangible.
Resin art can be glazed and painted.
