What Happened When Vader Fought Palpatine During The Revenge of the Sith? After learning about Padme’s tragic death, Vader was filled with rage, sadness and self-loathing. The 2017 Darth Vader comic picks up on what happens just a few moments after this tragic scene. As the droids and walls around him were crushed by Vader’s pure hatred, Palpatine is flung into the wall by Vader’s force powers. Reaching out with the force, he tries to force choke Palpatine, but the Emperor is far too powerful. Instead Vader submits, but Palpatine shows no mercy mercy, using force lighting to torture Vader, before telling him that if he ever threatens him again, he would finish what Obi-Wan Kenobi could not.
