fter the implementation of the new Motor Vehicle (MV) Act (Amended) in the country, the Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday issued a circular from the joint commissioner's office saying police personnels and government employees will have to be pay double the fines, if found guilty of violating traffic rules.Meenu Chaudhary, joint commissioner of police (Traffic Operation) asked police personnels to be careful while driving personal or official vehicles."In case of jumping a stop signal or not wearing a seat belt or a helmet will be liable to pay double the amount of compound violations issued by traffic cops," she said.
The initiative has been taken under Section 210-B of the MV Act, 1988. The traffic police amended it on April 22, 2013 and then amended it again on August 7, 2014.
"In 2018, over 250 police personnels were caught for various traffic violations. This year too, the figure has reached above 100," another official said.Meanwhile, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued a challan of Rs 59,000 to a tractor driver for multiple traffic violations. Ram Gopal, the tractor. who is also the owner of the vehicle was caught after he jumped a red light on Tuesday evening. He also failed to furnish documents o fhis vehicle, required for verification.Subhash Bokan, PRO of Gurugram police said that Gopal was not carrying his driving license, RC, and vehicle fitness certificate.
After the implementation of the new Act, without a pollution certificate will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 which was earlier Rs 1,000. The new fines were implemented from September 1. Officials claim that there has been a steep rise in the number of people seeking these certificates. Sanjeev Pathak, an employee at a pollution certificate centre said, "The number of people coming to get a pollution certificate has increased."
