Of the top ten most destructive wildfires ever to hit California, the third deadliest was the Tubbs fire in October of 2017. The Tubbs fire caused the deaths of 22 people and destroyed 5,636 buildings just north of Santa Rosa, near the towns of Windsor and Larkfield-Wikiup. The second deadliest fire on the list was the Tunnel fire, burning 1,600 acres between Piedmont and Berkeley in October of 1991. The Tunnel fire led to the deaths of 25 people and destroyed 2,900 buildings. This fire was caused by rekindling from an earlier blaze. The deadliest fire on the list occurred in November of 2018. The Camp fire struck the town of Paradise in northern California, between Chico and Oroville. The Camp fire killed 85 people and destroyed 18,804 buildings across 153,336 acres of land.
