India’s largest airline is expecting around 30 aircraft to be grounded in the fourth quarter of financial year 2024. This is in addition to the current grounded fleet of around 40 aircraft.
The grounding of an additional 10% fleet will increase costs and dent the profitability of IndiGo. Moreover, this could lead to market share losses as it peers will remain unscathed. Air India and Vistara’s A320 neo use CFM engines and not P&W’s GTF engines.
As per analysts, the ownership cost of IndiGo could increase by 10-13%, which will increase the cost per seat by around 3-4%.
