"When a Stranger Calls" is a 1979 American mystery thriller film written and directed by Fred Walton and co-written by Steve Feke. The film derives its story from the classic folk legend of "the babysitter and the man upstairs".
It was followed by the 1993 made-for-cable sequel "When a Stranger Calls Back" and a remake in 2006.

During an evening where she looks after the children of a married couple, a babysitter is harassed on the phone by a stranger who always asks her the same question.
More and more worried as the calls follow one another, the young woman decides to contact the police ...
