Cathy Clarke retired from her position as Manager of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention for Toronto Public Health after 42 years in public service. Cathy started her career as a nurse in children's hospitals before accepting a position with the City of Scarborough Public Health Department where she worked with young vulnerable families and focused on healthy child development and parenting. In the years that followed, Cathy held an impressive range of roles in public health and became well known as a tobacco cessation champion. Her passion and commitment have inspired others to continue the important work of supporting tobacco-free living. In this interview, Cathy recalls the challenges and rewards during her career and shares some thoughts on how to be an effective public health practitioner.
