Hi Team! You may have heard the terms ‘compound’ and ‘combo’ exercises before – we see both in just about every F45 workout. However, they’re often confused and used interchangeably despite being distinctly different.

• Compound exercises involve multiple muscle groups and movement at multiple joints simultaneously. These types of exercises are generally considered more functional as they more closely replicate activities of daily life.
• Combo exercises are those that combine 2 or more separate exercises together, including compound exercises. These are great for adding variety and a challenge to workouts, but can be tricky to load properly with weight, such as with a deadlift and bicep curl combo. So, they’re generally better for cardio vs. strength training.
• But both compound and combo exercises are more efficient at burning calories compared to isolation exercises.

So, next time you’re in class, see if you can identify which stations use compound or combo exercises!
