The book is devoted to chess in the Urals and Western Siberia and covers episodes of the chess life of Yekaterinburg, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Orenburg, Tyumen.
The presentation in the book is based on the chronicle-historical range, illustrated with photographs, and supplied with tournament tables.
The author of the book made a great contribution to the study of the work of one of the strongest masters of Russia Georgy Ilivitskiy - "Ural Chigorin" and the first champion of Yekaterinburg Alexander Ardashev.
Sufficient attention is paid to the work of modern Ural grandmasters, such as A. Karpov, N. Rashkovsky, Y. Balashov, A. Panchenko, E. Sveshnikov, S. Rublevsky, A. Vaulin, M. Sorokin, L. Totsky, R. Ovechkin, A. Bezgodov, A. Shariyazdanov, A. Motylev, V. Varavin, V. Borisenko, L. Saunina, T. Gladysheva, T. Shumyakina.
Of great interest are materials devoted to the stay in the Ural region of such colorful figures as Stepan Levitsky, Fedor Duz-Khotimirsky, Alexander Alekhin.
The last two chapters of the book are devoted to women's chess.
The chapter "Battle of the Chess Fairies" contains the business cards and individual games of Alexandra Daibo (1900-1968), Zinaida Gorina (1915-1999), Temma Filanovskaya (1918-1994), Rosa Anischenko (1932), Valentina Borisenko (Belova) (1920 ), Lyudmila Reutova (1951), Lyudmila Saunina (1952), Yulia Demina (1969), Tatyana Gladysheva (1966), Natalia Laktionova (1974), Maria Kursova (1986) and other Ural chess players.
In this chapter, the author also allocated a place to international chess tournaments - a 16th category tournament - the Northern Ural-2003 Cup and a tournament of the highest 18th category - the Northern Ural-2005 Cup.
The chapter "World Championship in Yekaterinburg" contains the materials of the World Chess Championship among women, held in 2006, in which 64 chess players from 29 countries of five continents participated. The most memorable games of the final match, semi-finals and quarterfinals, as well as the games of the new world champion Xu Yuhua and the young participants - 12-year-old Yufan Hou and the Ural chess player Irina Kursova are presented.
The book reflects such a chess event as the opening of the Yekaterinburg Palace of Chess in the presence of the world champion Anatoly Karpov, the chairman of the Russian Chess Federation Vitaly Sevastyanov, and the future President of Russia Boris Yeltsin.
The book also found a place for chess composition in the Urals - it shows the achievements of international grandmaster Vladimir Bron, international master Alexei Kopnin and other composers.

The Appendices contain lists of chess players of the Ural region of different years, tables of regional, Russian and international tournaments of different years with the participation of Ural chess players.
