Gen 5 was the first generation to introduce Lansat Berry and Starf Berry as prizes for prohibitively long streaks. This is something repeated in later games, as I have demonstrated in Sun and Moon for example.



At first, I was disappointed that Sword and Shield removed the consecutive win streak requirement. About half a year since then, I had the idea to give a separate generation a shot. One where I had not done so before.And so we go back to gen 5 once more. The Battle Subway has you stop at a rest area after every seven consecutive wins, and you can talk to NPCs who have the exact same win streak as you.


At 105 wins in a row, you obtain the Lansat Berry. At 203 wins in a row, you get the Starf Berry. It is worth noting that these are entirely missable if you don't talk to the NPCs in those specific platforms. The reason why these numbers aren't flat 100/200 respectively is because of the aforementioned seven wins in a row requirement, so we're looking at the closest multiple rounded up.

 As you can see, the secret to this party is to combine standard Durant cheese with an unique twist in Cloyster Skill Link. Usually, Cloyster is the one Shell Smashing, but I decided to deviate by having a Smeargle Baton Pass it instead so I have an extra offensive move slot! Having Ice and Rock type multihit means most things cannot keep up with it. Any stragglers typing wise are dealt with as a result of Razor Shell, and Ice Shard handles priority moves.



The only real thing that broke my streak a few times in the early 20s was Quick Claw shenanigans by the AI. If the Quick Clawer is a physical attacker, Cloyster can usually survive because of the White Herb resetting stats, but only AFTER all Shell Smashes are Baton Passed. You can also see Hone Claws is on this list-- the AI is downright scummy with Double Team legendaries such as Regigigas. The game can Double Team as much as it wants, I am able to simply Protect and Hone Claws to match.


This is the fourth iteration of Truant Durant cheese that I have done. At its core, you have Durant, a Baton Passer, and a multihitter. In that regard, gens 6/7 have the advantage of Mega Kang, while gens 5 and 8 have a diluted pool of opposing Pokemon, making it easier to prepare.



The berries can be refarmed by doing yet another win streak of this scale, but not planted. Plating berries was a Dream World only thing in this gen, and good luck with that lol
