Описание к видео Southwest Idaho evening weather forecast for Jan. 31: Back to colder than normal temperatures

A cold front moved through last night, bringing some light snow showers to some during the very early hours of the morning. Under a northwesterly flow aloft, there's still enough moisture and instability to see light, scattered snow showers in the west central and central mountains. Up to an inch of additional accumulation is possible for mountain valleys, with 2-3" in the higher peaks.

Even though it was a cold front that moved through, our valley temperatures have warmed today. That's because the front was able to sweep out the inversion. Unfortunately, we get a resurgence of cold air into the region for the rest of the week -- so it's back to below normal temperatures, at least through next weekend.

A dry north, northwesterly flow will dominate this week. Every once in a while we may see a weak impulse sneak through, which could bright some quick, light snow showers to the region. This looks more likely for mountain locations, but it's also possible for the valley. Regardless, it won't last long or amount to too much. We'll keep you posted every step of the way.

The good news is, there is more sunshine to look forward to this week. As we move through February, it will become less and less likely for an inversion to form and HOLD over the region for days and days. So, for anyone who needs to hear it -- most of the cloudiest and coldest days are behind us.

Groundhog Day is on Wednesday, and local groundhogs will most likely see their shadows, implying six more weeks of winter for southwest Idaho. But, who trusts a rodent?!
