This video is brought to you with the generous support of Fairfield University / Bennet Center for Judaic Studies.
The Bennett Center for Judaic Studies is a unique academic center that strives to enrich the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual dialogue of Fairfield University. In my new series of videos on the Jewish Catskills, we are leaving Brooklyn for upstate New York, where Hasidim spend the summer months. But in order to understand the story of Hasidim in the Catskills, we must first learn about the earlier wave of Jewish vacationers, those who came to what was then nicknamed 'The Borscht Belt', a truly iconic moment in American history. The Borscht Belt memory is now revived through the new Borscht Belt Museum, which I visited towards the end of the summer of 2023. Allen Frischman was kind enough to sit down for a talk and show me around.
