Gungor Acoustic Lesson - Beautiful Things

HOW TO PLAY - An acoustic guitar lesson for Beautiful Things by Gungor. In this lesson, I teach you how to play the song in standard tuning -- not drop D tuning (like the original). The basic chords of the song are G, D, Bm7, and A. For the G chord, the voicing he uses is not a straight-up open chord, so I teach you finger positions to effectively achieve that chord. I also teach you how to play with a pick, using a hybrid picking technique (where you use your other fingers to pluck the higher strings) to simulate playing the song with a finger-picking style. Finally, I show you the few little signature "riffs" that he plays between the D & G chords, and going into the chorus section of the song, as well as chords for the solo/instrumental section (where Lisa is singing, "You make things new, You are making me new"; pay particular attention to her phrasing & try to mimic that on the guitar with your chord changes during this section).

There are other YouTube videos -- by Michael Gungor himself & others -- that show you note-for-note; however, each of their lessons involve D-tuning your guitar. During live worship or small group worship settings, it may not always be convenient or ideal during a set to be tuning down/up your guitar (esp if your guitar doesn't hold tune, it can knock all the other strings out). Not trying to make a big deal about alternate tunings, 'cause it's not that big of a deal; just presenting an alternative. :)
