With a vision to showcase Delhi as a tourism and culture-friendly city, Delhi Tourism in association with the Government of Delhi, has been organizing a variety of festivals and cultural events such as the Garden Tourism Festival, Kite Festival, Itra-Sugandhi Festival, Magic Festival, Dill Ke Pakwaan and many more... And here comes the oldest among these the Mango Festival, which celebrates its silver jubilee in June 2013.

Mango is native of India. It has appeared in our art, literature and mythology since time immemorial. Some versions of Ramayana blame mangoes for the destruction of Raavan's beautiful garden by Lord Hanuman, Mangoes also find a place in Jain and Buddhist texts. Alexander the Great christened it as the "King of All Fruits". The Mughal emperor Babur called it "Fairest Fruit of Hindustan". Akbar is said to have planted 1,00,000 mango trees in Darbhanga.
The mango trees has religious significance among Hindus. Mango leaves are used to decorate entrances to spaces where auspicious functions, such as marriages and house-warming. Mango wood is used in havans and poojas and also at the time of funerals. Mango motif is considered to be an auspicious symbol that signifies fertility, is used on bridal wear, bridal mehendi and wedding decorations.

From the blistering hot summers to the wet, humid monsoons, mangoes are there to take us through the uncomfortable weather and to help us enjoy the rejuvenating rains. Mangoes, full of nutrition and flavor, are the sweet companions of our childhood, as the mango-smeared smiling faces of children often proclaim and the guilty pleasures of our adulthood.

And we are going to celebrate the Mango festival from today. Delhi Transport Minister Shri Ramakant Goswami inaugurated the event at Dilli Haat in Pitampura. The Mango Quiz contest, Magic Show, Mango Eating competition and Quawali by Yusuf Khan Nizami along with cultural programmes by Sahitya Kala Parishad and Punjabi Academy made this event fruitful!
